Default Accomplishment then dread, anyone?

Anybody in GW ever have one of those stints where you achieve something you been wanting for a long time... then just suddenly you thats all you been doing for days on end and you have no other plans... and suddenly you just don't want to do anything so you turn off the game?

I was grinding.. grinding OH so hard for that rank 5 in asuran. For many of you that say it's easy and fast. Please note my computer is so terrible, it can take 2 minutes or more to load a explorable/mission with henches or friends. can take me upwards to 10 minutes or more to load into a populated district of some town like kamadan or wherever.

So i reach rank 5, which I didn't even want for the armor, I did it to up my summon skills, and suddenly I realize I been doing whatever I could for 5 days straight (after reaching rank 4) to get to rank 5. I did nothing else in the entire time on GW, no other characters, nothing. I spent my time having to adjust my build to get through just explorable zones. I had to run across the continents to get much needed skills for my heros, costing me money just so I could go farming.

So then there I just am suddenly depressed. Another thread put it best about the new poverty being not money but enjoyment. I turn off the game and didnt come around for a few days.

Sure i'm poor money wise all the time. But what gets me the most is i guess the real lack of reward you feel when you achieve something. I remember getting PSYCHED about getting my way through factions to get an endgame green. Nightfall had crappy scythes so my dervish sold his book. I see the incredibly uninspired endgames for EotN and I just can't even bring myself to beat this expansion. I want monument armor but after reaching 11k I just can't bring myself to do anymore.

This is a big reason why after playing GW since it came out... like 2.5 years ago or so... that I still have yet to max any title on any character ever. I'm close on getting protector of elona since before I made my dervish I said I would try and explore every new place I went and try to get master's on every mission I did. Which was nearly all of them. So that at least I know I could get in about 2 days.

I can't bring my main character (dervish) through tyria just because I know there is absolutely nothing into getting through the missions except for the title. There is absolutely nothing else that you can get out of it besides like getting the elites in perdition rock or whatever.

I had decided to try and maxing out either/or his SS or LB track. I started today and already I am just totally exhausted mentally in doing this and don't even want to care anymore. I mean 15k I COULD do by like tomorrow or the day after... then I just see the 50k requirement and my heart just sinks. I'll be doing nothing but Sulfurous waste runs over and over again on my laggy comp that overheats for a week straight if I want to see that max title.

Again, anyone else have these kind of feelings?

Usually when I accomplish a title, I put it up on my character, look at it and think...so what? In the end I realize I just spent endless hours grinding away just to get a few words put onto my character.

The sinking feeling goes away after a while and I continue to find new ways to enjoy the game. Nonetheless, that's my initial thought. "So what?" The way I see it, there's always someone that's going to have more titles than you can imagine, and another person's crowning title is Sunspear General. Someone else doesn't even have that.

There will always be someone above and below you in Guild Wars. So I think if you grind too much, you need to sit back and relax every now and again. I've actually stopped playing EN for the time being to do a few rounds in Fort Aspenwood. The faction reward isn't sufficient but it's fun, and that's what counts.

Opposite kind of thing for me. I get pumped about getting, say, rank4 glad, then realise after a few minutes I want 5. -.-

I came to this after getting sick of playing due to a death on a Survivor. The death had nothing to do with me and everything to do with Arenanet deciding to disconnect me in the middle of a battle and then allowing me to reconnect only after 2 deaths. The fact that their shoddy connection priorities contributed to this only makes me more frustrated. Someone who walks around with Legendary Survivor is wearing the true Lucky title.

I rarely play any other characters besides my main because the game is so poorly designed for that. It takes too much time to do anything on any other characters, and this is coming from someone who pretty much has everything.

I completely understand your frustration with title grind. Since its release, Eye of the North has been a real let-down in gameplay. The only fun things to do are the minigames and the dungeons. The rep grinding is limited exclusively to clearing areas with level 24-28 monsters in it, only you don't any drops or a vanquishing bonus.

Once I hit level 5 Norn and got the one armor in the game worth getting (something that wasn't a reskin), I quit Eye of the North to go back to Vanquishing. It's like playing the same freaking game only I'm being rewarded for it.

However, I'm always achieving things with my main character. I'm a big armor collector, and I title hunt all the time, and I always go for that "perfect record". Even if there weren't any titles, I'd be doing the same stuff with my main just to get gold lettering in Hard Mode. In fact, I kind of wish there weren't any titles so I wouldn't feel bad about not having Survivor.

^ Government Flu, I'm glad you brought up Fort Aspenwood. It seems like I always slowly migrate back to it. It's the only truly fun experience in Guild Wars, so I've never really complained about the rewards.

Kinda reminds me of how I felt after getting FoW armor. It felt good, but now that I didn't have to farm for ecto and shards non-stop, I did feel like I was in a lurch about what to do. But you do bounce back. I mean, there is always something more to do to. I'm grinding out for LB title now.

Sadly, Guild Wars just isn't suited for replayability. You'd be suprised at how many people actually enjoy finding/getting better loot/rewards. If Guild Wars had a real decent time/reward ratio, I'd probably be insanely addicted to it, as would many.

But yeah, a little more on topic: I agree with you, Fox. When I started going for People Know Me on my Warrior, halfway through a max-title I stopped and thought "why bother?" Looking back on it, I think I only got the KoaBD title only to justify having FoW armor and so people didn't think I was a "noob". Makes me sad, really.

However, I can't complain. Like I said, Guild Wars isn't meant to get you hooked. As long as you buy their product, boom, mission accomplished.

Kinda the same thing for me i guess, but usually i just have a 2-day happy streak that settles down to a low humming state of content. then eventually just becomes... well... part of everday. Btw, i fricking love your avatar spazzer, Skies of Arcadia F(the freakin)W.

I would generally say that if it took 2.5 years to get bored that's a pretty decent run.Not to mention that 5 days of doing one single task is bound to get boring no matter *what* you doing - and GW is still VERY light on that end for an online game.

*shrug* I'm not really sure what a number of posts like this really want. You remember a time when the game was new and there was still tons of stuff to do that was "wilderness". It's not the games fault (or the designers) that after 2.5 years you don't get that feeling, the game is still as good or bad as it has ever been. You said yourself at one time Prophecies was great and now you can't be bothered - again the game itself is just as good or bad as it ever was.

Really - what would you have done to fix this? What would rank 5 needed to give you to be "fun"? If it went faster what would you really be happy to max everything that fast? No matter your fix do you *really* think that suddenly the community at large would be happy or just have as many complaints (albeit a different group of people)?

The problem isn't the game, the problem is you. Nothing wrong with that - it is going to happen to every game in the world, though for some reason people seem to think that GW is unique in this respect. Go play something else for a while, I bet that after you take some time off GW will be back to being fun again. When the game gets boring I go play something else until I get the urge to log back in.

Yea, this is exactly how i feel, whenever i do something that i've been working on for a while, i don't play that character for a bit, Which i really don't like doing.

I semi-lied

I have had the game since it came out... but I only played it maybe about half the time or more.

I would grind grind grind my way through the game and find stuff to farm afterwards or do something else. Then I would be exhausted and quit for some time. months at a time at times.

example. When I beat factions with my rit. I did little else then quit.

another. I got a bit over halfway through nightfall and I decided to call it quits. I came back a few months later and finished it up.

Tyria needs endgame weapons of it's own that are just absolutely keen. That would give me enough jolt to run through the game again.

In gwen the only real reward you get is further filling up your hero handbook. I won't call those droknar crap reskins "rewards".

And the lack of hardmode gives me less incentive to go for the end. I mean we are playing an expansion that has level 28 foes that drop level 15 equipment... THIS IS MADNESS!

Madness?

THIS
IS
ANET!

This feeling happens whenever I can guess the outcome of what I'm doing in game. So the more I play the game and the more I see, the less I want to play and see because I can tell what I haven't seen is going to be like.
Okay, that sounded confusing. :O

The only title I have is canthan and tyrian explorer and I'm happy with it. I look at a player with a title of a sunspear general and a non title player the same. Do you really feel that great because your a general??? Well I certainly don't. I play a game to have fun, and if it mean farming, then I farm. Afterall isn't game all about fun that why u play it??? Think about that for a while then i'm sure u will fine your true calling. Why do u have to painfully grind for title when u could do something else for fun. For me, if your bored the best reward is helping out a fellow player out, now that is a real reward it is self.

After getting Tyrian vanquisher, which took me a solid month, I really didn't want to bother with Elonian and Canthan. I just shut off the game for two months, during which I taught myself Ancient German, became a Capoeira grand master, discovered a new Go opening, painted a couple of neo-impressionist sceneries, and figured out how to cook a proper paella with calamari. But then I started to miss Guild Wars, so I came back and vanquished some more. Such is the cycle of life.

It's generally the mindset of everyone thinking Guild Wars is an MMO. Almost every MMO has an endgame. Guild Wars is not an MMO, hence no endgame.

Once I achieve something I set myself a new goal, and thus don't find myself depressed/bored.

I only feel that way very rarely, and when i do its briefly as i can think up of plenty of things to do.

If you have an intrest and affection for the stories of Guild Wars playing the game again can be a real treat, to do all the quests again and play through the missions and watch the intresting clips that follow. If you skipped it all and just went for the end game reward i can imagine why youre bored. Play for fun, not items

I feel the same as many in the thread. I retired all but one of my characters due to titles and heroes not being cross account and then, after the pursuit of a number of titles I simply came one day to "What's the point?"

Sure, I had an awful lot of fun, especially getting Legendary Protector title-wise as well as simply time spent with friends and guildies over the years. That alone certainly justifies the time spent playing. Its just to continue now in PvE I need my character to develop further than titles and skins.

Fun ride though. Been a few months again since I logged in and I havent even gotten GWEN. Suppose I might, or I may not. Dunno. This funk happened after I finished Legendary Protector and looked toward finishing all the elite skills and/or mapping. Not much else to do. A lot of good times had though.

I think it depends on the title- I have both Legendary Skil Hunter and Legendary Cartographer, and for me it was very rewarding to be able to finish both- cartographer took a lot of detail hunting and skill hunter took a lot of trial-and-error depending on where I was, but learning how to build teams for the different areas helped me out a lot in normal gameplay.

I know a lot of people whom I ha'd with who had this happen. You devote your time to getting your desired rank (let's say 9), then after you reach it, it makes playing seem somewhat pointless, since the next real step up is such a huge amount of hours away. Some people quit, others find renewed interest after a short break. I think it's just human nature, whether in life or a game. You devote yourself to a goal and focus solely on it, then when you've reached it, there's a confusing period where you wonder what's next.
